CM Maryam Nawaz Launches PIFTAC, Approves Anti-Drone Unit in Punjab
Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced the establishment of the Provincial Intelligence Fusion and Threat Assessment Centre (PIFTAC), making Punjab the first province in Pakistan to introduce a centralized intelligence and threat assessment system aimed at enhancing internal security and law enforcement coordination.
PIFTAC First-of-Its-Kind Security Initiative in Punjab
During her visit to PIFTAC on Tuesday, the Chief Minister received a comprehensive briefing on the centre’s operational framework, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and the overall law and order situation in the province. She termed the initiative a major milestone in Punjab’s journey toward becoming the safest province in the country.
Anti-Drone Unit and Cybercrime Cell Approved
In a significant move to counter emerging security challenges, CM Maryam Nawaz approved:
- The formation of a dedicated anti-drone unit to tackle aerial surveillance and drone-related threats
- The immediate establishment of a cybercrime cell to address digital crimes and strengthen cyber security
PIFTAC to Make Punjab the Safest Province
She also announced that an Artificial Intelligence (AI) hub will be set up within PIFTAC to enhance data analysis, cyber intelligence, and rapid response capabilities.
Proactive Security Measures Ordered
Emphasising prevention over reaction, the Chief Minister directed authorities to adopt a proactive security strategy, including:
- Continuous combing operations across Punjab
- Installation of modern digital scanners at all provincial entry and exit points
- Enhanced monitoring to curb the movement of suspicious elements
Punjab Sets Up PIFTAC, AI Hub to Boost Provincial Security System
A centralised digital dashboard has also been introduced for deputy commissioners of all districts to enable real-time coordination and monitoring of security-related matters.
Strengthening Whistleblower and Intelligence Systems
CM Maryam Nawaz further instructed officials to strengthen the whistleblower system to help prevent terrorism and serious crimes. She stressed that timely intelligence sharing and early threat detection are critical to maintaining peace and protecting citizens’ lives and property.
“Punjab Will Be the Safest Province”
Reaffirming her government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said Punjab will utilise all available resources, technology, and intelligence tools to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
PIFTAC Established in Punjab
“Our focus is on pre-empting threats before they materialise. Punjab will be made the safest province in Pakistan,” she stated.
This landmark initiative positions Punjab at the forefront of modern, intelligence-led policing and security management in the country.
